Penn State University Libraries will feature a pop-up exhibit of prints from "El tiempo pasa y nada cambia" ("Time passes, and nothing changes") by Panamanian artist Giana De Dier on Feb. 24-25 in the lobby of the Pattee Library mall entrance. The exhibit honors the lives of Afro-Caribbean women who supported their families and communities during the construction of the Panama Canal. It will then travel to Penn State Altoona to be hosted in the Robert E. Eiche Library on Feb. 27-28.
The annual African American Read-in at Penn State Altoona will take place on Monday, Feb. 24. This year’s theme is Young Readers. Events include the “Monday Marathon,” a keynote presentation by Shanetia P. Clark, and a community program at the Railroad City Cultural Center in downtown Altoona.
Penn State Altoona will hold the annual Altoona Benefiting THON Silent Auction on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Slep Student Center. All proceeds go to Altoona Benefiting THON.
Selected to the Penn State Altoona Athletics Hall of Fame were Frank "Junie" Moore (men's basketball, 1947–1949), Reese Piper (men's basketball, 1971–1972), the 2000–2001 and 2001–2002 women's basketball teams, Tony Petulla (baseball, 2005–2008), Jimmy Baum (baseball, 2009–2012) and Cord Heine (baseball, 2009–2012). Moore enters the Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Achievement Inductee. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, in the Adler Athletic Complex.
Michele Dunleavy, 2024-25 Penn State Laureate, will offer her Rhythm in Motion workshop from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5, in Room 148 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona.
The Penn State Emeritus Academy will host its fourth lecture, "The Secret History of Walden Pond," this week on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 2:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium at Pattee-Paterno Library, University Park, as well as on Zoom.
